Is Beljen the only tapestry
weaver in the USA?
Beljen is the only company in the US making tapestries comparable in quality to
the European imports. Several other companies make wall hangings that fall into
the ‘promotional’ category using far less construction and are often made with
synthetic yarns. Our tapestries quite comfortably fit in more upscale homes that
should not use the pixilated promotional products.
What size tapestry should I
consider?
Beljen offers an assortment of sizes in all of our pieces to better meet your
needs. As a general rule of thumb, tapestries should cover approximately 80% of
the wall space where they are hung. Beljen tapestries show best when viewed from
8-10’ away thus allowing the full depth of weave and color to be appreciated.
How
do I hang a Beljen Mill
Tapestry?
1. All Beljen tapestries
have an elegant logo backing sewn to the artwork with a patterned Beljen Mills
design.
2. The backing has a hidden
pocket attached to accept the rod.
3. Beljen Mills hardware
includes adjustable metal rod and mounting brackets.
4. Securely mount the
brackets to the wall with the enclosed screws.
5. Slide the tapestry over
the rod and attach the finials.
We
recommend using a level to insure that your woven art hangs evenly.
Can tapestries be framed?
All of our tapestries have a woven rod pocket attached to the back. However, we
have seen beautiful framed applications using our tapestries. We encourage you
to do research and use a frame shop that has experience working with textiles.
Can I use tapestry for
upholstery?
Several upper end
manufacturers use our pieces on custom designed, upscale upholstery. Our
monogrammed pieces have been exceptionally popular on dining chairs, club
chairs, and settees.
Are the colors I see on my
computer the same as the tapestry?
Minor variations of brightness and color may occur
due to differences in computer display settings and monitors. We have made every
attempt to match colors as closely as possible to the actual product. If you
have a specific question, please contact us.
Why do you
use cotton and rayon?
Historically,
tapestries were made of wool as this was the easiest yarn to dye. We chose to
use a very fine count cotton yard that better enables us to weave the fine
detail you see in our pieces. We include rayon to add the subtle
look of luster.
Why did you
select the name Beljen?
Beljen
is an acronym for the company founder, his wife and two daughters. Common
knowledge in the World is that the best tapestries are Belgian tapestries… we don’t want to
change anybody’s way of thinking, only their spelling!
